All my other routers were plug and play and forget. The only ones that ever gave me any trouble were the d-link ones. I have had routers from d-link, linksys even the cheapo brand tp-link. Just take a look at the newegg or amazon ratings and you can see 100's of 1 star ratings for these routers. Sure some of the refurbs are probably just buyer's remorse returns but most of them are probably defective units. There is a reason why apple sells these refurbished units. Just because you had good luck with one router doesn't make every single unit ever manufactured perfect. LOL! this is the biggest exaggeration I have ever heard in my life! It's a great consumer router, but it lacks some advanced features.Īs for the Airport Express, I have found they are decent, but not as rock solid. That said, it sacrifices functionality for ease of use and there is no web interface. Easy to configure, and one of the most compatible I've used. The Airport Extreme has strong signal and is reliable. I have two Airport Express units (802.11g, and 802.11n), and one Airport Extreme (802.11n).
It has faster, cheaper, but it doesn't come with the 3 ethernet ports at the back, only 1, but who uses ethernet nowadays anyways, it is all wireless. I recommend the newer one for $75 at the refurb price. If I had it my way all the consumer routers in the world would be Apple routers. It would have saved me hours of my life and it only cost $75. Well worth $75 once I knew how much trouble I would have saved if I just bought one years ago.
